FAQ's - Common questions that come up regarding chroming or polishing

How are my parts chromed and what process do they go through?
  1. Once we receive your parts we will verify the quantity and send you a verification email letting you know we received the parts, and take digital pictures of all your parts upon arrival.
  2. The parts then go through a stripping process in which any old finishes are removed old chrome, nickel, copper, paint, or powdercoating is removed.
  3. How well the surface is prepped is a key to the ultimate quality of any plating process, and we carefully polish the surface of each part to obtain a smooth surface so the final product will shine beautifully once electro-plating begins.
  4. All parts are treated with our plating process, which triple plate finishes (copper, nickel, chrome) the parts.
  5. After the initial copper dip the parts are repolished to prep the surface for the layers of nickel and chrome.
  6. The parts are then inspected by natural and UV lights to ensure the highest quality finishes.
  7. Your parts will then be repacked and verified with the original pictures and mailed back to you USPS priority.
  8. We will send to your provided email tracking information on its return.

What methods can I send payment?
You can send paypal payment to brian_k03@yahoo.com or with your parts send payment by check or money order.

What if I only want my parts polished?
We can also polish your parts
so if chrome is not your style.

What kind of warranty is available on my chromed parts?
We at Rb Chroming offer a 3 month
limited warranty which covers only separation (blistering / peeling) of the plating from the wheel or related accessory, not caused by impact, road hazard, or improper installation technique or accidental damage. Many of our customers have been enjoying their chrome parts for many years now.

What's so great about chromed parts?
When you polish your parts it requires upkeep in order to maintain that shine, by using correct compounds and very smooth grit sand paper. Also polished parts are very
susceptible to scratches, and they require the entire part to be reworked to remove any defects.

However with chromed parts/wheels, it is MUCH more durable and keeping your parts clean is a cinch. Simply using Windex and a cotton cloth will keep your
parts looking like the day they were freshly chromed.

Can you grind or weld my parts that I send in?
Please be sure to disassemble all pieces and remove any unchromable parts like plastic pieces or any sensor. We only perform chroming and polishing work, we are unable at this time to do any welding or filling services. Please not that we are not responsible for shipping, processing damages due to parts comprised of dissimilar materials like aluminum and steel within a single part. We are unable to give refunds for chromed or polished parts as the work perform is unreversible.

What about the insides of the parts I send?
We only prep the outside of the parts for the chroming process and so minimal bonding will occur to any of the inside of your parts.

How is chrome applied to the wheels/parts?
There are many ways the chrome plating process can be applied but it all depends on the type of substrate that is being plated on, there are several different etching solutions and brighteners that used for various types of metals. Acids are also widely used such as hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, and sulfuric acids. These are very strong acids, which only should be used by experience professionals who are properly equipped for this process. We normally will prep the parts prior to plating and then it will enter the three dips in a plating vat which is electrically live and have a conforming anode made from lead, tin or titanium depending on the type of metal being plated. We special in processing for bright chrome which is
often used as a decorative feature on consumer products such as car wheel and motorcycle parts. The vat will normally plate at 25 micrometers, which is thinner than a human hair.

What is black chrome and do you offer it?
Black chroming is a process that is slightly different from the traditional mirror chrome appearance by just removing the sulfate content and changing a few additives with an addition of trivalent chrome. When correctly performed when dipped in the 2nd dip of nickel a deposit will form on the metal that has a rich black color as long as the solution remained sulfate free. The anodes which are used are lead and the solution needed is sold by DuPont.

At this time we do NOT offer a black chrome
dip due to low demand, but that may change as demand increases.

I just got my parts back and there's a yellow drip mark on it?
That is remaining fluid from previous dips that may have come free, we always clean to a shine before sending them out but occasionally fluid may leak out during shipment. This can easily be cleaned with a cotton washcloth and Windex will easily remove this discoloration.

Will chroming my engine bay make it heavier?
The amount of metal actually added only weighs a few ounces and is hardly a noticeable increase in weight even in the flashiest of engine bays with lots of chrome parts. We have yet to see even a one lb increase in weight when receiving parts that weigh over 50lbs worth of parts before and after chroming them.
